The National Do not call Registry is up! Finally they’re doing something about phone-spam. Now for the next step, a national do not spam registry for email! haha that would be one HUGE database.

Most telemarketers cannot call your telephone number if it is in the National Do Not Call Registry. You can register your home and mobile phone numbers for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.

Now that’s some beef! Wish they had pics.

AMARILLO, Texas — If you’ve never seen a young woman in a staring contest with a 4 1/2-pound slab of red meat, it’s a thing to behold.

Livejournal Sux

Biggest mistake I ever did was install a livejournal server. This software is VERY unmanageable. I want to be able to delete all these damn duplicate users, I also want reports of how many entries users have made and how long its been since they’ve logged in. Unfortunately there is nothing for this. All I have to work with is the damn admin console. I can’t even list users with that. My final note to leave you with…

Journals are dead. Blogs are superior.

I wanted to make note of this in my blog so I could reference it later. Very Handy way to rip audio from dvds.

Thanks Jeremy Zawodny and David Dorward

I use Transcode for this, for example:

transcode -i /dev/dvd -p /dev/dvd -T 1,1 -E 44100 -y null,wav -m myAudio.wav -s 3

Hack attempt

Noticed a hack attempt today from ip “80.56.113.228″. They got in from a php exploit in the photo gallery. I’m working on upgrading the photo galleries right now. Should fix the problem. They used a rootkit called bindshell, which binds a shell to a specified port, problem is that the apache user doesnt have any permissions outside of the apache directory. Well, im keeping my eyes out now.. kind of a wake up call.

Awesome! Make ice cream in 30 seconds flat.

Liquid nitrogen is cold. Very cold. So cold that if a drop falls on your hand, it feels like fire. So cold that it can turn a fresh flower into a thousand shards of broken glass. So cold that it can make half a gallon of ice cream in 30 seconds flat.

GPS Recievers

I am currently using an old Garmin GPS 12. I want to get one that supports WAIS like the Garmin eTrex Legend. Man, money NEEDS to grow on trees. WAIS is much nicer because its accurate to 3 meters instead of about 30 meters, and when you’re looking for something on the ground thats small, 27 meters is a BIG difference.

Back From YAPC

Big Tree At the YAPC ConferenceWell, just got back last night from YAPC America in Boca Raton, FL. It was a great conference, and its got me in the mood to do some real perl programming for once. Although I’m having problems thinking of something that I can write, thats not a web based app. Visited Palm Beach, it was very pretty. Got alot of pics while I was there. I think I need to get a newer camera. My camera still doesnt produce as good images as the newer camera’s ive seen. Money is way too tight right now to blow it on a $300 camera. If I was going to get one though, It probably would be a Nikon Coolpix 4300. It has the two most important things that I need. 1) A lithium Ion Rechargable Battery. 2) Compaq Flashcard Storage. The only problem is it’s about $450.00, which isn’t bad considering I paid $750 for my last camera which I’m currently using and is a Kodak DC4800. If anyone wants to buy it off me, make me a reasonable offer. I’m not selling it yet, but if I get an offer I might. Or maybe I’ll decide to keep it another year. Never know I may figure out some more tricks with the camera.
I’m thinking about starting up a Sunday hobby : GeoCaching.. More on this later on.

Awesome program to show your windows and office keys in any current windows OS. Tried it on XP and it worked great.

The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install windows from your registry. It has the options to copy the key to clipboard, save it to a text file, or print it for safekeeping. It works on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Office 97, and Office XP. This version is a quick update to make it work with Windows Server 2003.
