Site Downtime

Well, the site was down for most of the day today due to what I assume is a DOS attack. It’s still going on, but has slown down a bit. There are about 6000 unique hosts that are hitting the site, all requesting a certain url that doesn’t exist. Possibly this is a mass email with a link to the site? Maybe someone has control of 6000 virus laden boxes. I’m not sure. Only about 3% of all requests for that page actually have referrers.

I thought about blocking every single IP address, but really that won’t do very much good, other than cause each host to time out, they would still be hitting my connection, they’ll just get dropped. I setup the requsted page with a 0 byte file, so they’re request is being filled.

Any suggestions? That’s all for now. I’ll update later if anything else happens.

Just random stuff

What a bleh week. Been hellaciously tired.. to tired to blog.. dunno why. Maybe im getting sick or something.. who knows.. someone sent me a link to this linux pic today. Thought it was interesting. Reminds me of the perl pic. I think more people should take pics like that. It appeals to the geek in me and im sure many of the male visitors would agree. I got quite a lot of linux material, just need girls to pose with it. Could start a new era of geekpr0n.

Weekend plans : Tonight… relax and be glad I dont have to work tomorrow. Tomorrow… I’ll have Kylie all day and all night, and Sunday… Dunno.. do laundry, watch tv, maybe change my oil and brakes on my car, take some photos of stuff, if the weather is ok maybe go ride the motorcycle or possibly get the GPS out and go geocaching for once.

Have a good weekend.. and watch out for hurricanes!

RIAA Amnesty?

Seems to me that they just want people to turn themselves in so they don’t have to do work finding you, then they can call on you at a later date if they suspect you might want to swap an mp3.

The Recording Industry Assn. of America plans to announce an amnesty program this week that will let individual online copyright infringers off the hook if they change their ways, sources say.

Gentoo PortageView

Been working on a side project. It’s finished pretty much. PortageView. Its sorta a searchable database of portage. Works nice. and its Fast.

Saw Type-O Negative in concert last night. It was a great concert, except the club it was at had a lot of audio problems and Peter was getting pissed off. But what can you expect from a 25 year old club that has no working A/C.
