Thanksgiving Holiday

I finally got around to scanning this pic of us guys at HoJo’s. Pretty cool pic. Reminds me of lunch at Strack Intermediate haha. It’s always nice to have the guys together again.

Weekend Stuff

Got a lot of shopping done this weekend. Only need to buy for my dad, my mom, Sammi’s dad, more stuff for Kylie, and more for Sammi.

Had a wonderful Sunday with Kylie. We just hung out together, it was a lot of fun, she’s getting so big and so smart, its like hanging out with a good friend. I was a bit depressed leaving her on Sunday, but of course I get to see her again tonight.

Got to hang out a little bit on Friday night with Andy and Eric K., we were going to go to Hojo’s but didn’t end up going cuz we got involved in a poker game. Sorry Andy/Eric.

I Heard the AO-51 Echo Satellite this weekend and this morning on my drive to work. Tried to make contact, but I think my mobile antenna isn’t suited for working with satellites. In other ham radio happenings over the weekend, I talked to VK7ROY, (Roy in Tasmania) on Saturday night. Yes, I talked to a guy in Tasmania! It was neat to talk over a radio that far away (of course I used a repeater that was connected to echolink). Also, I found a ham-radio version of the night before christmas: Here.

Ham Radio

I decided to get into the Ham Radio hobby. I took my test on november 22nd, and I’ve already gotten my callsign KE5DEY. Pretty neat. Now I just have to save up for some radio equipment.

To touch on the question of “Why talk on a radio when you can talk on AIM/ICQ/MSN/cell phone/IRC/telephone?”… It’s not about the fact that radio is today considered old. It’s about the technology. It’s about the science. It intrigues me. The idea of beaming out RF signals around the world instead of through a cable is exciting. I’ve always been somewhat into radio, now I’m finally doing something about it.

I think this is going to be a very entertaining hobby of mine that should last a lifetime. I encourage anyone else interested in electronics, science and friendship to look into the hobby, it’s easy to get started. Check out: Getting Started in Ham Radio. I’m always here to answer questions anyone has.
